Harbor side and bog side
Harwich Port is on the water, with Saquatucket, Wychmere and Allen Harbors. The north of town, around Route 6 and the North Harwich rotary near Main Street, is quieter and more wooded, with cranberry bogs still active in several places.
Route 28 and Route 6 are the main roads, and the Cape Cod Rail Trail passes through. Streets near the harbors are tight in July and August, so tell us the date and we plan the arrival time around it.
Cranberries, and a September festival
The first commercial cranberry operation here opened in 1846. Since 1976 the town has held the Harwich Cranberry Festival each September, and the fireworks bring crowds. If your move date is festival week, expect traffic on the main roads.

The Harwich Transfer Station is at 205 Queen Anne Rd. As of September 2026 it is open seven days a week, 8am to 4pm. Passes are sold at the Harwich Community Center. Confirm current details with the town.
